CommRob

A meeting was arranged at KTH in late spring 2010 with 30 representatives for the French industrial network PICOM (Pôle de compétitivité Industrie du Commerce) who were visiting Sweden. The network is focused on research and cooperation within the area of ”commerce in the future”, and in particular innovation within retailing and distribution. The members are mostly industrial executives and researchers, and the visit was arranged in collaboration with the French embassy in Stockholm. The group was particularly interested in knowing about the CommRob project which was presented together with another KTH project. This was also an opportunity for the CommRob team to obtain responses to the project’s ideas and results from an important stakeholder group.

Ro-Man 2009 - Workshop on Improving Human-Robot Communication with Mixed-Initiative and Context-Awareness

This one-day workshop addresses mixed-initiative communication and context-awareness in human-robot interaction. Although these topics are investigated in isolation, a combined view of both aspects is often lacking when designing a human-robot interface. So, a potential quality improvement of the user interface is neglected.

For example, a robot that will be capable of indicating a product to the user in a supermarket [1] would require awareness of the localization. Another example would be a robot trolley used as a walking aid by an impaired person capable of recognizing crowded areas and decide to avoid them. We can also think of disabling the speech input and output modality if there is too much noise. Such kind of interaction which involves mixed-initiative supports a more "natural" human-robot interaction. Context-awareness is also needed in order to decide which initiative is meaningful for the user.

In this workshop we take both concepts into consideration in an integrated manner. Our discussion process focuses on how this combination may lead to better user interface design. As many issues are still not resolved, we initiate an in-depth discussion in order to gain more insight.

The second WP6 meeting was held at ZENON S.A. premises on the 23&24 of June 2008 in Athens, Greece.

The 1st Review Meeting of CommRob was held from 21 until 23 of April, 2008 at Karlsruhe, Germany. The meeting was hosted by FZI.

The first WP6 meeting was held at Stuttgart, Tagungshotel Telecom, on January, 25, 2008.

The 1st Year Semi Annual Meeting was held in Toulouse, on 6-7 of September 2007. The meeting was hosted by LAAS.

A requirements Workshop for WP3 and WP4 has been held in Karlsruhe on 22 and 23 of May 2007. The meeting was hosted by FZI.
